year reunion for Fisher Branch Blades

Last week featured the 40 year reunion of one of the Interlake’s most successful hockey teams, the Fisher Branch Blades.

The team won six championships in seven years. The team originally played in the Eastern Hockey League and eventually was amalgamated into the South Interlake Hockey League. This reunion was held to celebrate the team from the years 1969 1981. Held in Fisher Branch, the evening consisted of an intersquad hockey game between the players, who even wore jerseys that were replicas of the ones worn by the team in the past.

A banquet was held with many players giving speeches and reminiscing about the team’s championship days. Pins with the team’s logo were also given to each player who attended the reunion. Thirty two out of 60 players from across Canada joined in the celebration.

The end of the evening saw a toast made by Ron Chekowski to Don Bouchard for all his contributions to the team. As a symbol of his achievements, the team has decided to retire his jersey in the Fisher Branch arena.

« He would control the puck like no one I’ve ever seen. He was our scoring champion, and led our team to multiple championships in his modest no penalty way. He is the man who made this evening happen first with his idea, buycheapnfljerseys

« It was really great to see my old teammates, I have not seen many of them for close to 35 years, » says Don Bouchard, the event’s organizer.

Facebook page has been set up in commemoration of the historic team, where fans can post photos and discuss the great moments shared by the community.

Also in the works is a book dedicated to the team from 1969 1981. The book is being self published by Don Bouchard. It will be packed with photos, stats, and information about the team in their glory years.
